GENE PIERCE-PERSONAL INFORMATION

Pierce began his communications career in 1976 shortly after graduating cum laude from Harvard College. Since then, his work has been recognized for excellence by the American Marketing Association (New York City Chapter), the Columbus Advertising Federation and the Central Ohio chapters of the Public Relations Society of America and the Business Marketing Association.

Columbus' Business First magazine recognized his business and community leadership by selecting him for their 1993 'Forty Under 40' list of emerging
young business leaders.

A graduate of the Columbus Public Schools, Pierce is active in urban education issues, recruiting Columbus Public Schools’ students for admission to Harvard College, an endeavor he has pursued for more than twenty years. He also served as Secretary of the Literacy Initiative of Central Ohio, a public-private partnership to promote adult literacy from 1993-97. Pierce also is a board member of I Know I Can, an innovative last dollar grant scholarship program for graduates of the Columbus Public Schools.

He currently serves as Co-Chair of the Harvard Central Ohio Schools & Scholarship Committee, was selected a Class Marshal for his Tenth Reunion and an Aide for his 25th Reunion, and served as President of the Harvard Club of Central Ohio from 1982-85.

His college training includes a Bachelor of Arts degree (cum laude) in Modern European History (post-1789), with a Senior Thesis (magna cum laude) in international relations and extensive coursework on post-World War II Europe and American Cold War foreign policy.

Gene also earned a Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School (night program - 1985) and is a member of the Ohio Bar.
